Hunn-Weitl Vegas Vacation: Take Two

Vegas Vacation 2014***Many thanks to Ashley for the pictures above that I stole from her Facebook. 🙂 ***

You may remember that last year, we went to Vegas and left some unfinished business… So, in early November, Mike and I dropped the trio at school and then headed to Midway to catch a flight to Vegas.  We met Owen and Ashley at the airport that afternoon and took a taxi to our hotel.  This year, we stayed at the Mirage.  It was in a great location and we really enjoyed staying there!  As soon as we were checked in we headed to the buffet for dinner (Owen’s choice!) and then spent some time exploring on the strip including the new Linq area and we went up in the High Roller.

We were up early on Saturday morning (I was up about 3:30) for our unfinished business — our hot air balloon ride!  It was amazing!  I thought I would be really scared but I surprisingly wasn’t and felt safe in the basket.  The views were amazing and the entire experience was worth it — even with the year wait!  Afterwards there were snacks and mimosas.  I definitely want to take the kids on a ride when they are older!

We went to the Venetian and had breakfast at the Grand Luxe Cafe before heading back to the hotel for a bit.  I took a nap and Ashley rested while the guys gambled downstairs.  We went exploring in the afternoon and that evening had dinner at Bouchon — my favorite.  It was delicious as usual.  There was talk of playing cards in our room but we all ended up crashing.  We were exhausted after being up late the first night and up early for the hot air balloon.

On Sunday we were all refreshed and had breakfast at Pantry in the Mirage.  It was delicious! Definitely a spot I’d be willing to eat at again.  After breakfast we spent the day exploring on the strip — we walked down to the Cosmopolitan, through Planet Hollywood, and other hotels along the way.  We would gamble a bit and then explore further.  We stopped for a midafternoon snack of burgers and milkshakes at Burgr and eventually went back to our rooms to get dressed for our 7 pm show – Jersey Boys at Paris.  The show was really good — I even ended up buying the soundtrack on iTunes I liked it so much!  After the show Owen decided to enter a poker tournament so Mike, Ashley, and I ate pizza at California Pizza Kitchen.

Monday we slept in a bit and grabbed a quick bite at one of the coffee spots in the Mirage before renting a car and heading to Red Rock Canyon to explore.  It was a lovely drive and both Mike and Owen could have spent hours there.  After exploring we hit In-n-Out Burger for lunch and then played mini-golf at the Kiss themed course across from the Hard Rock.  We weren’t ready to go back to the hotel yet, so we headed to Freemont Street — we were all playing BlackJack with some crazy older men.  It was pretty hilarious.  I earned the nickname Malibu.

We went to a few other places on Freemont Street and by the end both Owen and I were feeling pretty good… We sobered up with more late night pizza at California Pizza Kitchen.  After we ate we headed over to Treasure Island in search of cheap BlackJack tables (no luck) so we said good-bye to Owen (he entered another poker tournament) and walked back to the Mirage with Ashley.  I used the rest of my chips on BlackJack and then Mike and I headed to bed as we had an early flight out the next morning.

It was our best trip to Vegas yet and we had a great time with Owen and Ashley, as always.  I wish they lived closer!  They are both so easy to hang out with and it makes traveling with them a lot of fun. There is already talk of next year…  😉
