Over Father’s Day weekend, we took the kids on their first trip to the Dells. This was also my first time at the Dells and as Mike described it – it’s the Branson of Wisconsin. Tons of waterparks, amusement parks, mini-golf, shopping, and shows. We only touched on the numerous activities we will be able to do there as the kids get older, but fun was had by all.
After a bite to eat, our first adventure was a duck ride. Both Bo and Anna enjoyed this immensely. Clara was pretty scared – especially on land. Surprisingly, being on the water didn’t scare her quite so much. My grandpa drove a duck during World War II, so it was a neat experience to be on one.
After the ducks, we headed back to the hotel to check-in. We didn’t stay at one of the big waterparks, but our hotel did have a small one – just big enough for our trio. A few little slides, a big slide inside and out, and a castle to play in. They loved it.
After swimming, we headed out to dinner and managed to get everyone tucked into bed and asleep by just after 8. Everyone did surprisingly well sleeping in the hotel – probably because they were exhausted from all the swimming!
On Sunday morning, we had breakfast at the hotel and then hopped in the pool for a bit longer. Despite Bo going down the slide without his floaties and freaking out briefly and two poopie swim diapers, it was another fun experience. We checked out of the hotel and then headed to Deer Park. The deer are tame and come right up to be fed. There were also other animals to see and feed, but the deer were really neat. We stopped for a picnic lunch on the way home.
It was a successful mini-vacay and a very successful first night in a hotel for the trio. Let traveling begin!

We went to the dells about a month ago, and went to that same Deer park, Sophie was hesitant at first but then loved it
I love the Dells! We haven’t taken the kids, but we have been to Branson and I think the Dells is way more kid-friendly.
