Where do you store potato chips?

My in-laws, they store them in the dishwasher.

Yes, despite the fact that they have a fancy Bosch dishwasher, they typically don’t use it to actually wash dishes.  Oftentimes, it can be found filled with bags of potato chips or as storage for other items.

Why, you might ask, do they not use the dishwasher?  Is it broken?  Does it not clean the dishes thoroughly?  Oh no, the dishwasher works well.  Or at least it has on the occasions I’ve convinced them to use it.  My MIL will sometimes claim it is because there are not enough dishes to fill it, but now that there are 7 of us there when we visit, any meal produces enough dishes to easily fill the dishwasher.  They also claim to like doing dishes…  That’s fodder for a whole other post…

Sometimes, I feel like my in-laws judge me as lazy because I prefer to use the dishwasher instead of hand washing dishes.  Oftentimes, they even choose to hand wash dishes at our house, and well, who I am to complain if I don’t have to do it…  However, for the record, I’m far from lazy – I just prioritize my time differently.  There are a million things I’d rather spend my time doing besides dishes.

I don’t really understand why anyone would want to spend 30 minutes of their life doing dishes when they could spend less than half of that loading and unloading the dishwasher. For me, those extra 15 minutes would be better spent playing with my kids, baking banana bread, cleaning under the girls’ booster seats, or perhaps participating in a meaningful hobby (blogging, anyone?).

So I ask you, my friends, where do you store potato chips?

I sure wish we had a dishwasher! It seems like we wait till we have no more bowls or plates then hand wash and it takes about 20 min. I can’t wait to have a dishwasher again!

My chips go on top of the fridge, not much cabniet space here!

We have them in the pantry. Before that they were in a basket on the counter.

I insist on hand-washing wooden spoons, pans & the sharp knives…my husband hates this.

He just wants to put it all in the dishwasher…

My friends grandpa & grandma stored their chips in the freezer…

My step-mom uses hers to store all the sacks, and my MIL uses hers to store extra large mixing bowls. Their reasoning? They hate that you have to practically ‘wash’ the dishes before you can put them in the dishwasher. I’ve explained that we don’t, of course we give all our dishes a slight rinsing as they go in the sink. Guess it’s best to say, “To each his own.”

We have a special ‘snack cabinet’ in the laundry room.

  4. We just don’t buy potato chips (or they end up being stored as adipose tissue on my rear). But seriously, they prefer to wash the dishes by hand? (cough) B*llsh*t (cough) – as in – they can’t possibly be serious!? No.Way.

If they ever try to judge you as lazy – go ahead and judge them as environmentally insensitive philistines. It’s a well known fact that washing dishes by hand uses FAR less water than a dishwasher, and in fact there are many systems today whereby you can channel that water that gets used to wash your dishes into a ‘grey’ water system – so that it gets used to water your plants – saving you AND THE PLANET a whole lot of heartache.

I can’t imagine not using my dishwasher! The only things that got hand washed around here were Drake’s bottles and that was only because we had just enough to get through one day’s feedings. I especially like the part about cleaning under the girls’ booster seats! I didn’t do that for the longest time, and can I just say…YUCK! How can so much get under there?

Our potato chips are stored in the pantry (when we have them).

We keep our chips (pretzels) in a cupboard over the fridge.

I had only enough bottles for one day, so for a long time after the girls’ birth, I rarely used the dishwasher. Now I run it every evening. But I still handwash a lot of things — wooden spoons, freaking nonstick pans and utensils, straws for the girls’ straw cups, and all the small snack cups. Also I prefer to wash Rubbermaid containers by hand. Actually, I don’t terribly mind doing dishes by hand. I also like doing laundry (putting it away promptly is a problem, though). But I HATE ironing, dusting, cleaning the stove, and cleaning small surfaces. And I leave the carseat cleaning to D.!

We never have chips in the house, only after people have been here. Then there isn’t enough to store.

Chips don’t last around me they are stored in the tummy!

By rhe way, dishwashers sanitize the dishes much better than hadwashing. and towel drying is the worst thing that can be done.
You are not lazy, you like clean dishes!! ( I work in the restaurant biz and have taken many food sanitation classes)
