Our weekend started off spectacularly. On Friday evening, Mike’s best friend, Owen, his wife, Ashley, and daughters, Molly and Catherine, arrived for the weekend. We were thrilled. It had been nearly a year and a half since we last saw them — before the move — before the girls — let’s just say life has gotten in the way — and we were so glad that it finally worked out for all of us to get together. (Their son, Caleb, stayed home with the grandparents so he wouldn’t miss soccer.)
Ashley put their girls to bed and we stayed up late (late for us anyway…) talking and eating pie. On Saturday morning, after breakfast, Ashley, the kids, and I hung around the house while Owen and Mike made a trip to the grocery store and explored our backyard. They were like little boys in a candy store — so excited to be spending time together.
Katie came around 4 on Saturday afternoon to watch the kids while Owen, Ashley, Mike and I when hiking at Matthiessen State Park which is about 5 minutes from our house. After hiking, we went to Starved Rock Lodge, changed into our nicer dinner clothes, and ate an appetizer at the bar. We were having a great time just chatting and spending time together. Owen and Ashley are just easy to be around — it’s the way friendship should be.
The Hunn’s took off early on Sunday morning in hopes of avoiding our fate, but as of last night it sounds as if they also have the flu. :( And poor Katie caught it too. :( If I would have had any idea I never would have exposed them!!
