Surviving

We are surviving. Both of the girls have jaundice so we have been making daily trips to the local hospital for blood draws. Clara’s numbers were down but Anna’s were up today so Anna has to go back to be tested again tomorrow. We saw the pediatrician (our neighbor) on Thursday and we will see her again on Monday. Besides the jaudice both girls appear to be perfectly healthy. Clara will have her hearing screening redone in about a week.

Neither Mike nor I deal well with the amount of sleep we’ve been obtaining. I’ve been trying to work and take the first shift with the babies while Mike sleeps and then he takes the early morning shifts. However, I still can’t sleep more than 2 hours at a stretch since the girls have to eat every three hours to help clear the jaundice. Each feeding takes about 45 minutes so then I have about 2 hours and 15 minutes before I have to do it all over again. Definitely makes the days much longer. However, I will say that knowing what to expect has made it a bit better. At least I had some idea of what I was getting myself into… I laugh at myself when I think about how difficult I thought one newborn was now that I have two and a toddler.

I’m already amazed by the looks we receive when people notice we have twins. And we haven’t even been anywhere with both them and Bo yet! We’re definitely going to be stared at forever now. Ugh. :( At the hospital and today when we took them to Target it just felt like we were constantly being watched.
I’ve started to sort through the numerous pictures we’ve taken over the last few days. Here are a few to hold you over until I can find the time to process a few more. :)

Clara – 1 day old.

Anna – 1 day old.

They are beautiful. I hope the jaundice clears up soon so you can get a little bit more sleep.

They are adorable and have such girly features! I'm excited to see more pics. I can't believe you are out and about. I barely made it to jaundice checks with my three, but other than that, I swear I couldn't walk for a week. You are Superwoman!

Your girls are amazingly beautiful. I can't imagine how you have time to blog!

One of my identicals has recently shot up an inch in height over her sister. I don't dress them alike, and all of a sudden, the staring has stopped. I almost miss the attention! Just kidding – it's so much faster to get through the grocery store now, not being stopped every few steps!

hope anna's numbers are better tomorrow. i cannot imagine how hard things must be right now.

I was not prepared for all the stares and comments either…it does it a little more bearable… 'cause you just get used to it! Sometimes I'd love to run in Walmart with both the girls and not talk to anyone! :)
Hope Anna's numbers come back down!

    They are beautiful!

Are you exclusively nursing at this point?

Is the jaundice severe enough that they are talking about light therapy? We had a bili-blanket with LG and it helped a lot. Of course setting them in a sunny window has the same affect, but he was born in November and we didn't have that advantage.

I bet you will get lots of looks once you start taking all 3 kids out together. You should see the looks I get right now with LG and SB each on a hip and an obviously pregnant belly. So many of those looks seem to say, lady what's your problem?

Congratulations on the babies. Jaundice sucks – my babies had blood draws every day for the first week, but once it cleared it was smooth sailing health-wise. Good luck!
