The Names Have Been Finalized!

Our girls have names, pajamas, and cribs!

Mike and I talked about names on the way home on Friday and on Saturday morning we made our final decision. We decided to go with family names that are simple, elegant, and fairly popular. We did not want the names to start with the same letter or sound “catchy” together, but still have a similar feel.

Baby A will be Clara Jane (I think I will call her Clara, but she can go by “C.J.” as well) – Clara is Mike’s maternal grandmother’s name. Mary Jane is Mike’s paternal grandmother’s name. Jane is also the name of my favorite high school teacher and one of Mike’s aunts.

Baby B will be Anna James – (Again, I think I will call her Anna, but she can go by “A.J.” as well) Anna is my grandpa’s mom’s name. James is Mike’s dad’s name, Mike’s middle name, and similar to my name.

We worked on the nursery this weekend and it is slowly starting to come together. All of the furniture is setup and everything that doesn’t belong has been moved elsewhere (how and why do I have so much crap???). I still have quite the list of things to buy and lots of organizing to do, but it at least looks like a room that could hold two babies, so that is definitely a positive.

We also purchased our first girl clothing this weekend. After eating lunch in Mattoon yesterday, we headed up to Tuscola and bought each girl a newborn sleeper. We’ve decided we will not dress the girls alike (I’m already focusing on how to make sure they are individuals and not just “the twins”) and they can share all of their clothes for the first few years (or until they actually care). The first sleeper is white with large pink polka dots and it has a pink bee on the chest. The second sleeper is yellow with multicolored hearts and says Love across the chest. Dressing girls is definitely going to be a change from all of the baseball and car motif clothing that Bo wears! Especially since I’m not a big fan of frilly stuff, lace, and bows!

It is slowly starting to feel more real that this may actually happen. My stomach seems to be growing daily, which definitely makes it seem more real that I’m pregnant. I’m still worried that something will happen but I am doing my best to mentally prepare myself for the possibility that we may actually be bringing two little girls home with us in a few short months.

If you’re interested in seeing how fat I’m becoming, head over to my review blog where I’m giving away two tees from Boob Maternity (each with an $89 value!!).

  3. Nurse Lochia says:

LOVE the name Clara! But, I am biased because Clara is my favorite girls name, and my daughters name. You don’t see too many Claras.

  4. SS says:

I LOVE your name choices. Definitely think Anna goes better with Clara than Addison, and I love James as a middle name for a girl (it’s my son’s middle name). And how sweet that it’s two girls. Congratulations on a great ultrasound!

I like the names, they are traditional. I have to admit, that I do sometimes put the babies in similar outfits (obviously not matching as they are boy/girl).

It all started feeling more real when I was putting together furniture and seeing their room transform.

  6. Maya says:

I am a BIG BELIEVER in NOT dressing them alike.

Make sure to tell everyone at your shower that you will not be doing the cutsie “dressing twins alike” bec you will be surprised by just how much identical items you get.

People always ask me why I dont dress my girls alike and I answer that they are individuals- not the same person.

  7. Somewhat Ordinary says:

That is fantastic-2 little girls! Beautiful names!

  8. MyMommyIsBoring says:

Beautiful names and YAY for baby girls! Congratulations:)

  9. Lollipop Goldstein says:

    Gorgeous names–so light and delicate.

  10. sky girl says:

Classic and lovely names, both. And you’re going to have a blast dressing them. I’m not a fan of frills either and still find lots of good stuff. :)

  11. MissMVK says:

Love the names Jamie. So excited for you!

  12. Lori says:

Perfect. I’ve always loved “Clara” and the meaning behind it.

  13. Ellen K. says:

I love both names. They have a similar “feel” and I think that is extremely important with twins, especially same-sex twins.

Ha, we have that bee sleeper. Ivy is wearing it right now. It’s one of my favorites. I am devoted to the ladybug sleeper, also with antennae feet. I have that in several sizes!

I do occasionally dress the girls in matching or similar outfits, but 99% of the time they’re in Carter’s footed sleepers. The girls don’t look alike, and so a lot of outfits suit one baby’s coloring more than the other’s. Anything that says “princess,” “diva,” etc. immediately goes in the Goodwill bin.

  14. Spanglish says:

I was hoping Clara would be one of the names, but I did not want to voice my opinion… not that you would have been swayed, but it is so deeply personal that I just wasn’t going to say anything either way. I absolutely LOVE James as a girl’s middle name.

Also, I’m so pleased you won’t be dressing them alike. A friend of mine has twin girls, and she refused all Zoey’s hand-me-downs because she insists on dressing her daughters either alike or super coordinated. Ridiculous. I’m glad that now Zoey’s clothes go to someone who appreciates it.

It’s a challenge to find girl’s clothes that aren’t frilly… but it can be done. I hate the stuff that says “Diva” and “Princess” as well. I don’t understand why they even make it. It’s cute for a dog… but not a kid.

Are you going to name the first one out a specific name? Or are you going to take a look at them first and then decide who is Anna and who is Clara?

  15. Midwest Mommy says:

Great names! Although when I first came here and read the first sentence I was like what, she is naming them pajamas and crib, lol. I was like those are interesting blog names. I need sleep!

  16. Anita says:

Those names are a couple of my favorites as well~have fun shopping for girls!
I’m always just a tad envious when looking through the “limited” selection of boys clothes :)

  17. JJ says:

Beautiful names! And I love that they can be shortened to be a fun nickname!

  18. Jinxy says:

    Those are beautiful names.

I can’t believe how ahead of things you are. I was 36 weeks before we really started to work on the nursery. Of course the Saturday we were going shopping for stuff my water broke so Lily was a couple of months old before we really had finished it.
