On Saturday, Mike and I celebrated our 5th anniversary. In honor of this momentous occasion, we bought ourselves a treadmill. Romantic, huh?
We are also spent two nights at the lodge where we were married and Bo stayed with Mike’s parents. We had a good time, but we really didn’t know what to do with ourselves with an abundance of free time, nothing to clean, and no Bobo to entertain.
Anyway, back to the treadmill. I’ve wanted a treadmill for as long as I can remember. At my parent’s house growing up there was no room for a treadmill. In college, I went to the gym all the time, so it wasn’t an issue and eventually bought a cheap elliptical for home use.
When I was pregnant with Bo, my desire for a treadmill was very high. As my belly grew I knew that if I had a treadmill at home I would at least walk if I could do nothing else. Instead, I gained a whopping 47 lbs. during that pregnancy. Something that I do not want to repeat again.
I know I would have convinced my grandpa to buy me one for Christmas after Bo was born but we didn’t quite get that far…
Before I started this IVF cycle, I made a commitment to myself. If this cycle did not result in pregnancy, I was going to start a running program and for me, a treadmill is an essential part of that type of a program to allow me to exercise early in the morning before Bo is awake on days when I can’t take him out in the stroller.
The day before I POAS, Mike and I went to purchase the treadmill. I said to Mike, “I can promise you I’ll be pregnant if we buy a treadmill.” And I was.
So my running dreams are being put on hold for pregnancy, and that’s okay. But I’m at least going to walk as much as I can in hopes to avoid gaining quite so much weight this time around.
Thus far, I’ve been doing great. I’ve walked a minimum of a mile each day either outside with Bo in the stroller since it has been so nice or inside on the treadmill. And Mike is planning to use the treadmill too — he just doesn’t have time right now with his 9 hour work days on top of a 4 hour commute.
Honestly, I think the treadmill will be a great anniversary gift for both of us. It will help us stay healthy which will hopefully help us to live longer and have more years together. And to me, more time together is more important than anything else Mike could have bought me for our anniversary — flowers, candy, jewelry — I like it all, sure. But what I want more than anything else is a long, happy, healthy life together.

Will this treadmill be going next to your drink holder . . . oops . . . I mean your elliptical machine?
If I would have known and lived closer…we just sold our barely used $1000 treadmill for $150 just to get rid of it. It was only 2 years old. Why, why? You ask…we needed the space and only one person was interested. Now I can’t believe we sold it so cheap.
Enjoy your walks!
I am still wondering how you guys manage with the 4 hour commute… Yikes!
Take care
