Ask Jamie: Acupunture??

Amber asks:
Did you do acupuncture or massage? I asked about acupuncture and Dr. J said it was fine if I knew someone.

Amber is a great blog friend! She and I both see the same doctor! Amber is just beginning the IVF journey after several IUI’s. I’m hoping this cycle is the one for her!

To answer Amber’s question, I did have acupuncture before my first 4 transfers. By the 5th time I didn’t want to spend the money (I think it was $250 back then — cash) and so I didn’t do it. Viola, pregnant. Go figure! I read all of the research when I was TTC about how acupunture helps with pregnancy rates, but that was not the case for me.

Here are a few articles I found after a quick Google search that discuss acupunture and infertility:

Acupuncture and Success of IVF

Obviously, I am just one person, but I can honestly say that acupunture did not work for me.

Ask Jamie: Now that you have Bo in your life, how is IVF different this time around — both emotionally and physically? Is it easier to deal with? Are there different challenges?

I don’t think I could take all those needles in me.

  3. The Patterson's says:

Thanks, Jamie! I actually decided against it, too! Instead, I went for a massage! :-)

    Congrats again!

I had the opposite experience, I didn’t use acupuncture for my first two IVFs but used it for my third and got pregnant. I also used it the second time around for my current pregnancy. I can’t really say for sure if it worked but it was very relaxing and I’m sure that didn’t hurt.

I never used acupuncture. It took three times to get PG the first time! (I can honestly say I have never been that stressed in my entire life and I got pregnant, so I am not even sure that stress affects things they way I have heard it does)

    Take care
