IVF Update

I feel like I’ve been neglecting to write about our IVF cycle. It’s definitely different this time around — both because we have Bo at home and because many people I know in real life read the blog. I figure they probably don’t want the details about the “magic wand” or the fact that I’ll soon have a needle poked through my vaginal wall about 20-25 times, so it makes it a little hard to know what to write this go around. :)

I fondly remember the days when this was just a little ole infertility blog and I’d hurry home from the doctor’s office to type out what every doctor and nurse said and how it might impact the outcome. This blog sure has come a long way!

That said, I know there are a few of you out there who understand the IVF process and are interested in our progress. At this point, everything is looking very good — dare I say — almost too good. My chances for OHSS seem pretty high as my ovaries are producing follicles like crazy. My stomach looks like I’m about 3 months pregnant and my ovaries are at least the size of grapefruits (pecans to grapefruits — it’s quite the transition). I’m a little bit uncomfortable, but it isn’t anything I can’t handle.

I’ve only had to make the trip to Champaign for monitoring twice — which is less than any of my other cycles. The nurse assumed that I would have retrieval on Sunday but late Friday evening I received another call and Dr. J wants me to coast for a day (no meds this morning) and retrieval will be early on Monday morning. I am not sure why they decided to have me coast, so I’m putting faith in the fact that they know what they are doing.

Mike and I will head to Indy on Sunday afternoon and spend the night, as we will have to be at the hospital very early on Monday morning. We are shooting for a 5 day transfer, and if that works out, transfer will be on Saturday morning.

Bo has been spending the night at my mom’s prior to our appointments at so he doesn’t have to get up super early. He’ll stay there again on Sunday and then on Friday evening before the transfer. He’s done really well staying with her and I don’t think any of this has impacted him thus far. I’ll have to be careful after retrieval and transfer to take it easy and not lift him too much but I had to laugh when the nurse said, “Just lay on the couch and watch him.” ha! She obviously hasn’t met my Bobo.

I actually seem to be doing the best at updating the current IVF cycle on Twitter. If you’re interested, I’ll probably do play-by-play when I can this week so follow me on Twitter if you’re interested. Otherwise, stay tuned — I hope to have embryo pictures to post next Sunday. :)
