Mike, Bo, and I enjoyed a four day weekend thanks to the Columbus Day holiday. To celebrate, we decided to trek halfway across mid-America to visit family and friends in Oklahoma and Missouri. We originally planned to fly but ended up driving instead — there just isn’t room on a plane for all of Bo’s paraphernalia.
Traveling that far with a little one was quite the experience, but overall, it was a fun and successful trip. Here are a few things I learned from the experience…
9. Traveling with a child makes everything take twice as long. Except for the actual visit. That must be cut short because child needs a nap.
8. It isn’t so bad to cuddle with a sleeping baby in bed. But if he thinks it’s happening again, he’s got another thing coming. He got lucky that there were 5 people in the house I didn’t want to wake up.
7. Two rooms are a must in any destination. It costs more but a peacefully sleeping baby (and a peacefully sleeping mama) is worth every penny.
6. You really can have a great trip without going shopping. I am not sure that I’ve ever been on a trip before that didn’t involve at least a little shopping. I guess I’m doing what I can to help make sure the economy doesn’t bounce back any time soon.
5. I really love Quizno’s salads. Mike brought food back to our hotel room two nights so Bo could play instead of having to sit in a restaurant after being couped up in the car all day. Quizno’s salads are amazing. That must mean they are bad for me.
4. Notes From The Underbelly by Risa Green is a very entertaining read. But only for those who are pregnant or have been pregnant. Sorry infertiles. Lots about this book would make you want to rip it to shreds but I still found it amusing.
3. I have great friends. They all let me know immediately that my house looked like a snowstorm hit — a toilet papering snowstorm that is.
2. I made the right decision quitting my job. Said teepeers (I have no idea if that is even a word) left a nice pile of toilet paper with their own urine on my porch. Thanks for sealing the deal.
1. It’s actually kinda nice not to be strapped to the computer for a few days. I went over 24 hours without checking the computer. Thank God my classes are finished or the UofPhx police would be after me.
A few photos for your viewing pleasure:
Gramcracker (my ex-step-grandma, it’s complicated) meets Bo for the first time. We waited to the end to take pictures and he was pretty cranky by that point but I love the smile on her face in this picture. It was a long trip and a short visit but that smile makes it all worth it.
Bo plays with the Hunn girls at Owen and Ashley’s house Sunday night. We seize every opportunity we can to visit these cuties. I love that Bo is starting to interact with the girls!
We were also lucky enough to be there to help celebrate Ashley’s 32nd birthday. I just love Ashley and Molly in this picture. And Catherine is just too cute peaking around from behind!

Ummmmm #2: their own urine on my porch
Seriously?!?!?!? That’s just wrong.
I did a lot of bad pranks in high school, but never with yellow tp. That is disgusting! Never even crossed my mind when I was that age. I do know we gave our bad director a few premature gray hairs though! He was always on the receiving end of our pranks!
