Goals

I started using my new Busy Body Book three weeks ago and I absolutely adore it. Talk about the planner of my dreams. :) (Seriously, if you don’t have one of these, you need it. Literally — NEED. They even make a normal January-December one for those of you who don’t live on a school calendar…)

One of the best aspects of the book is that there is plenty of room to write all of the random things I want to write down every week. Sure, I want to write down doctor’s appointments, days off work — the normal stuff. But I also want to write down more than that. My Busy Body Book has room for my food journal, tracking our spending, logging the number of hours Bo spends with my mom, the number of hours I’m devoting to my online class — you get the idea.

Even better, there is a full page for each week to write to-do lists. I love a good to-do list but I’ve managed to take the page a bit further. Each week, I’ve been giving myself a set of goals. Just a short list of goals/reminders to myself to help me get through the week. Since I look in the planner about a million times a day I think the goals subliminally make it to my mind. :)

This week’s goals included:
1. Cook 3 nights I am trying to cook only 3 times a week and have leftovers 3 nights and eat out 1 night (instead of cooking every night and it being one more addition to my to-do list each day). So far I’ve cooked two nights, had leftovers 1 night, and my mom cooked 1 night. Not bad!
2. Exercise 3 times I went for a walk with Mike and Bo on Sunday and Bo and I walked to my mom’s house for supper last night. Only one more workout needed to meet this goal!
3. Track spending I started reading some blogs about how to save more money. One aspect that I know I can do is to track all of our spending. I’ve been listing out everything we spend — from my school lunches to gasoline — it all gets written down. I have caught myself clicking off of the J.Crew website several times without buying anything since starting this…
4. Keep up with school/online classes Hmm… maybe keep up isn’t the best term. As I’m writing this I still have 13 papers to grade and several discussion questions to grade for my online class. But it doesn’t HAVE to be done until Sunday…. I’m ready to teach tomorrow for ‘real’ school but not fully ready for next week. I’m hoping to spend some extra time on both jobs tomorrow since Mike has the day off work.
5. Spend at least 1 hour each day only playing with Bo By far my best goal of the week. I’ve devoted at least 1 hour each day just to playing with Bo. Not to feeding him. Not to diapering or bathing him. Not to watching him while I unload the dishwasher or fold laundry. One hour where all I do is focus on playing with him. Definitely the best hour of my day. Today we played in the grass, swang, and read several books. When our hour was up we came in and did all of those other fun things I mention above. :)
6. Don’t feel guilty about going back to school This is a big one but overall I am doing better than I expected. It’s hard being away from Bo for several hours each day but I know that it is good for both of us for me to work a few hours a day (probably two jobs is a bad idea… I’m paying for that one) and I know he is in good hands.
7. Breathe! Definitely one of those weeks where I’ve had way too much on my plate. I’ve made it through the long days this week and Mike is home now for the weekend. There may be a light at the end of the tunnel…

I just set the same goal for playing with LG. I realized that I often get distracted when playing. So far so good.

Where did you get the crab floatie in the picture with Bo? One of LG’s favorite toys is a crab.

I still have a scholastic year left in my planner — I’m neurotic that way… must fill planner. And I like the set up, but I did find your planner to be infinitely cuter and will definitely be the next one I get. Jostens planners are not pretty.
